(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The 100th anniversary of the recognition of Islam in Austria was commemorated in a ceremony on Saturday, June 30.

The ceremony was held at the Islamic Center of Vienna with the participation of Muslim prayer leaders, heads of Islamic associations, and a number of political figures, Al-Yawm As-Sabi daily reported.

It included various programs including cultural and recreational activities.

Islam was constitutionally recognized by the parliament in 1912 at the time of Emperor Franz Joseph I.

Nearly half a million Muslims live in Austria, 200,000 of them residing in the capital city of Vienna.

Muslims in Austria are said to be in better conditions compared to Muslim minorities in other European countries.
