(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Following Sunday’s brazen bomb attack in Gilgit on a van carrying Shia Passengers, local police conducted a search operation here on Monday arresting 10 suspects who belonged to banned terrorists outfits such as Sipah-e-Sahaba and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
According to sources, blast victims had earlier lodged an FIR with the local police station nominating 10 individuals as suspects.
DIG police, Ali Sher said that “in all, we have arrested 10 suspects so far who are being interrogated”. He added that 5 of the arrested included suspects nominated in the FIR.
The police official condemned the bomb attack on innocent civilians by terming it an act of “terrorism” and assuring that more raids to nab culprits would be conducted in the coming days.
It is pertinent to mention here that the attack on the Shia passenger van occurred on Sunday near Minawar, Gilgit as an explosive device attached beneath a culvert was triggered when the passenger van, on its way to Haramosh, crossed over it. The attack had left one Shia passenger Shujat Abbas martyred and four severely injured.
The rising incidents of attacks on Shia Muslims and passengers in Gilgit-Baltistan province reflects the poor law and order situation in Shia dominated province of Pakistan, where the Wahhabi militants involved in the target killing of Shia Muslims.
