S. Arabia expected to get involved in peace efforts not war in Yemen

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia was expected to get involved in peace efforts in Yemen rather than war.

"As an influential Muslim state, the Saudi government was expected to bring together the warring parties in Yemen and help peace efforts in the country," President Ahmadinejad said in his address to crowds of people in Ahvaz.

He deplored the fact that the Palestinians and the people living in Gaza have not enjoyed support from the major Muslim government of Saudi Arabia.

"If they had enjoyed minimum support from Saudi Arabia, the people in Palestine and Gaza Strip would not have been exposed to human disaster and mass killing by Israel. Rather, the Palestinians would have managed to end Israeli occupation and dismantle the occupying regime."

They pushed Saudi Arabia to enter into fighting in Yemen to damage the Saudi image, he said.

Since the Middle East region possesses huge gas and oil reserves in the world, those who seek to dominate the world want to take control of the region, said the Iranian president.

"Since they are not able to dominate the Middle East region they have resorted to military means to attain their sinister goals in the region."

The president said that the issue of human rights and campaign against weapons of mass destruction are mere lies.

The September 11 incident was a US and Zionist backed plot to justify their military presence in the Middle East region, he said.

He said that they have now full control of Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan and are to fan the flame of war in Yemen.

“We believe that the devastating war in Yemen has been masterminded by the US, Britain and the Zionists to ignite the flames of war in the whole Middle East region to dominate it,” he said.

The struggle in Yemen should be ended through talks between rival factions, he said.

The Zionist regime is now on the verge of collapse, said the Iranian president adding that the Zionists seek form a Jewish state on bodies of Palestinians.

He advised the Palestinian nation to remain firm and united as the fall of their enemy is very near.
