(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Lebanese political and religious officials, in spearate statements, condemned sacrilege of Prophet of Islam (PBUH) by the US anti-Islam film.

President Michel Suleiman, in an interview, said the film is obscene and its production is an anti-democracy and uncivilized move.

Referring to the Pope Benedict XVI trip to Beirut, he said the visit proves his opposition to the production of the anti-Islam movie.

Meanwhile, Hezbullah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naeem Qasem denounced making the movie, saying Muslims across the world have staged rallies against the anti-Islam move and called for an end to such conspiracies.

He further held the US’ officials as responsible for production of the film.

In related developments, deputy head of the Higher Islamic Shia Council, Sheikh Abdel Amir Qabalan, also in a statement denounced production of the anti-Islam film, saying that the move revealed their enmity towards Islam.

They try to distort the image of the Muslims, he said, noting that the best way to counter such acts is to maintain unity among various religions.

The anti-Islam movie has sparked outrage in the Muslim world, leading to massive demonstrations in Egypt and popular protests in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi where the US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other American embassy staff were killed.
